And now, some non-pony content. I just recently reread the book The Draco Tavern by Larry Niven. It’s a collection of short stories all about a bar that all the aliens who visit earth drink at. It is, in my opinion, some of Niven’s best work. It is also classic idea-based science fiction at it’s finest. Each short story is just a little vignette exploring a single idea. There are 27 stories and each one of them explores a completely different idea. I thought I’d have a lot more to say about this book, given that I’ve read it four times and many of the individual stories even more times than that in earlier books they were found in. Basically it comes down to this is really, really good science fiction and I’m not being my usual generous reviewer self about that. I consider this book one of the measuring points for what good science fiction should be. If you like reading about aliens or science fiction concepts, you should check this book out. The ebook is pretty cheap and even the physical books are fairly reasonable if you get them through Amazon.
