Pony Stories 371

Titanium Dragon has moved up in the ranks! Overtaking the Louder Yay blog in number of reviews, he’s now up against the two big review groups and the efforts of JohnPerry.

Icky-Sicky Pinkie Pie by ThatOneWriter

The decently written shipfics are kind of a bother to review. There isn’t much to say about them and I’ve been going through a lot of them lately and they all kind of blend together. I will comment that this was very good characterization of Pinkie Pie. I was disappointed that it didn’t involve Fluttershy drawing on the experience of the swapped cutie marks to entertain and/or bond with Pinkie Pie. The cover image is nothing but lies, sadly.

Ought Not by Replicant

Huh. First part of this was enjoyable. Ending was a little vague for my tastes. Needed to be at least 50% longer I think, with a bit more of a firm resolution.

Worth It by Pascoite

Quite good. I don’t think keeping the subject of the story a secret was needed, but it did allow midst of the story to focus more on Twilight. A bit of older Twilight, but for the most part she’s pretty much the same. Perhaps a bit more stable mentally. It’s a short story so it implies more than it shows. The subject of her conversation with Princess Celestia is one of my favorites to ponder and probably one of the more casual and optimistic treatments of it.

A few people took issue with the cover of Icky-Sicky Pinkie Pie. The author says he couldn’t anything more relevant to Fluttershy x Sick Pinkie on derpibooru, and that’s why he used it, but it really does promise something that simply never happens. Which is unfortunate, since I’m sure that at least a few of its downvotes came from that fact.
Personally, I remember getting to the incredibly forced method of their friends leaving Shy and Pinkie alone together and noping out of it. That was a very poor setup, even if Pinkie’s characterisation was very good.

Yeah, it could have been done a little more skillfully. As for the cover, eh, I came to terms with the fact that cover images are marketing and lies rather than accurate representations a long time ago. Not something I’d downvote over anyway.

I like how this one got more downvotes than most of my stories due to the genre and character tags leading everyone to expect TwiLestia or TwiSpike shipping. The ol’ bait and switch.

Seriously, though, I debated a lot over whether to include the romance tag and thought I’d better play it safe so people knew to expect some in there.
