Recent episode thoughts

08 Jul

Just watched the two most recent pony episodes. Yak episode was fluffy, but had some good lines. Plus fun Gummy scenes. Felt short, which I consider a good thing. If the episode just flies by and doesn’t feel incomplete it must have been at least mildly entertaining. Also, it’s okay if you throw tantrums and destroy things if your hosts are convinced it’s a cultural thing. I have to think that maybe the borders haven’t been opened in so long because Princess Celestia was sick of them throwing tantrums and decided not to put up with their shit any longer. Now she’s conflicted because she knows the yaks haven’t changed and isn’t looking forward to dealing with them again, but she really really doesn’t want to disappoint or upset Twilight Sparkle. The newest princess worked so hard at this and thinks it all worked out, and Princess Celestia doesn’t want to introduce Twilight to realpolitik just yet.

As for most recent episode, I liked how Twilight Sparkle left her place in Canterlot exactly when we see her in the series beginning and has never been back there since. Even though she’s visited Canterlot several times since. Dinky was in Twilight’s old science class. I’m beginning to suspect that foal isn’t normal. Or knows a time traveller. Doctor Who started in a school classroom with a young lady taking science classes after all. Either Canterlot has no building codes (you’d think the marble motif was required given how consistent it is) or Moondancer’s family is influential enough that she can get away with living in what should be a condemned building.I like to think Twilight putting a good through the door was her still not quite used to her Earth Pony strength. I really want to know what the ponies are reading at the table next to Moondancer in the library. Seems to be exciting, or at least surprising.

Also, if one of her old friends works at the castle and does big events… Twilight Sparkle has to have run into her at some point since she left. Or at least passed her in the hall.

Overall, eh, I have to say I didn’t like it overall. It was a good episode and plenty of interesting moments. Mostly I really don’t like socially awkward situations, and that happened three times in this episode. Like… I stop the show as if to wait somewhere else for the moment to pass, but then I realize it’s a tv show and it’ll be that same exact moment when I watch it again. Bleh. Still, that’s a personal thing. The episode in general was just kinda obvious really. The yak episode was interesting because it could have turned out any number of ways (that they would become friends or maybe they don’t and Twilight gets the same lesson Pinkie almost learned with Cranky).

But, on the other hand, Minuette’s tropical sunglasses while they were spying? Totally awesome. I almost fell out of my seat laughing at how obvious it was how serious she was being on the whole spy thing.

Nah, just that pesky depression. Let myself get pulled into modding Skyrim again and that pretty much devours my brain for a while if I let it.

        My favourite quote:

“All of life can be broken down into moments of transition, or moments of revelation. G’Quan wrote, ‘There is a greater darkness than the one we fight; it is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way.’ The war we fight is not against powers and principalities; it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope—the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The Future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition to be born in moments of revelation.

No-one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.”

        Truth is …a river.

God is the mouth of the river.

But thanks, B5 always makes the day better.
