Pony Stories 543

Was reading a Horse Wife comic today, the one about libraries, and I just got a joke in it. I loved the Celestia book in the last panel, but I had completely missed the Celestia book in the first panel since it was all tiny. Makes it even better.

Flapjacks by Baal Bunny

This Baal Bunny guy, he might be going places. A bit more practice and he might be able to make a name for himself.

Hee. I kid, I kid. Really do need to read more by him. One of the authors I haven’t read a lot by, but I have loved everything of his I’ve read.

Anyway, this is how you do shipping right. It has the same basic outline as most shipping stories. Already established relationship, only a few brief flashbacks to show how it happened, yadda yadda yadda. The difference is that this story doesn’t use any of that as a crutch. It manages to put plenty of emotions into the story, and focuses on an important moment of the relationship instead of just one romantic moment of many. Plus it has worldbuilding, Earth Pony magic, and a old pegasus doomsday device! All of which is crammed into like two paragraphs that only have a passing connection with the actual story. Highly recommended, assuming you don’t mind AJ and Dash shipping.

Baal Bunny is AugieDog, in case you didn’t know, who is a published novelist.

Yep. Hence the joke about him making a name for himself, as if he was some new obscure writer on the site.
