Pony Stories 920

I’m reading Silver Glow’s Journal and once again discovering that it’s a bit of a slog to read in large chunks. Great story… Just, not really a story. It’s the slice-est of slice of lifes where there isn’t really any narrative flow. Just things that happen one after another. As a personal journal kept through a year should be. Hopefully I’ll get through the whole thing this time.

Good Thing: Even though it’s not worth a re-read, did have me laughing out loud at one or two points for sheer comedic ridiculousness.

Title: Don’t Look At The Fog
Author: SpitFlame

Finished it: No
Liked it: No
Saved it: No
Good Thing: Has the most effective and disturbing metaphor for a viciously painful headache I’ve ever run across.

Good Thing: Sweet and very much in thematic line with the show.

Pony Stories 919

Non-minimal review today, mostly because I wanted to comment a bit more specifically about this story. Nothing too major, just more than the yes/no format of the minimal reviews.

Mister Cook Goes to Canterlot by Dave Bryant

I liked this one, but not quite as much as the previous stories involving this character. Not entirely sure why. The more aimless story of him just wandering around? Maybe, but it’s not like a lot of stuff happened in the previous stories. Perhaps it was the disjointed manner of each bit of the story was more or less independent and there wasn’t anything except the basic premise (protagonist wandering around Canterlot) that connected them. In any case, it was still an enjoyable read.

Pony Stories 918

Playing a game called The Magic Circle, where the premise is you are the main character of an unfinished game trying to both fix and take advantage of all the glitches and unfinished code to complete the game from the inside. Cool concept, mediocre execution. Not sure I’d recommend it, but it has some interesting bits in it.

Good Thing: If you have all the backstory and relationship tangles worked out, this is a very sweet story about family and making the best of past mistakes.

Pony Stories 917

HTML is easy to learn, but still doesn’t give me a shortcut to actually typing up all the content onto a website. Ugh, dumb reality. I need a shortcut to actually doing the work for creating a website so I can just fiddle with code for a bit and then *boom* completed website.

Pony Stories 916

Just watched a movie called Mortal Engines. I saw a trailer for it a couple of years ago and thought it looked like a fun (if disposable) movie with cool visuals. Then… Was reminded it existed when I saw it on Amazon video. It apparently did a full theater release that disappeared without a ripple. Now that I’ve seen it I understand why. Really cool visuals. Cool (if ridiculous) basic premise… and some of the worst writing and dialogue I’ve ever seen. Like… Ugh, most of the bad fan fiction on FimFiction is better.

Title: To a Princess
Author: Transanity
Finished: Yes
Liked it: Yes
Saved it: No
Good Thing: Decent Rarity point of view story.

Title: Winter Wind Waltz
Author: Pen Stroke
Finished: Yes
Liked it: Yes
Saved it: No
Good Thing: It is a tiny minor bit, completely unrelated to the main story, but it mentions Luna getting ready for an event called the Winter Moon Masquerade. Which is the exact name I came up with a Luna equivalent for the Summer Sun Celebration. Great minds think alike? He somehow stumbled across my blogpost about it and liked it? Who knows!

Title: Princess Celestia’s Adventurous Advice
Author: kudzuhaiku
Finished: No
Liked it: No
Saved it: No
Good Thing: I liked the idea of a charity contest for a private audience with Princess Celestia.
