Sleep sucks

Sleep is a curse and science needs to find a cure for it as soon as possible. Anyway, missed writing up a post for yesterday because of a wonky sleep schedule and trying to have these come out at the same time every day. Guess I need to get into the habit of writing them sooner. On the other hand, I don’t really want to have a buffer of like a dozen posts because this is meant to be more of a in-the-moment sort of deal. Ha! I like the optimism of thinking I’d get a dozen posts ahead when at any given moment I have one post worth of content in mind if I’m lucky.

Today’s gripe! I’ve been watching several current anime and reading ongoing comics online and I can’t say I’m a fan of following ongoing media. This whole “waiting a week between episodes” is very frustrating. Gotten too spoiled with modern streaming and access to the entirety of every show made ever I guess. Doesn’t make it any less frustrating to have to wait to see what happens next. Especially for the shows that aren’t very good. I like to marathon a mediocre series to enjoy the cool concepts, then moving on and never thinking about it again. Hard to do that when a show is ongoing, but I still wanna know what happens next!

Here are some anime series I’ve quite liked!

Restaurant to Another World
My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
Laid-Back Camp
Heaven’s Design Team
Dr. Stone

Continuing to go on.

Apparently, one of the new features of WordPress is that you can automatically turn posts into a podcast. Which makes absolutely no sense to me. I can see why the company would do it, but that’s because corporate decision making is great for making incoherent ideas. Which is one of the reasons I’m trying to move away from the big corporate domination of day to day life.

A month or two ago I made a concerted effort to cut google out of my life. Not up for doing it completely, but no longer using google maps, google search, or even the google play store for my phone if I can avoid it. Almost got a google-free android phone, but it was a bit pricey and my current calendar app isn’t available on it.

Likewise I’ve moved a bit toward more privacy and open-source for other pieces of software. I changed my email of like two decades to a privacy based service with end to end encryption and a focus on privacy and user focus. Swapped out Dropbox for Sync for more end to end encryption. Started using a VPN, all that jazz. I even now use Signal for my text messaging. Which makes me feel all cloak and dagger in some ways. Nobody can see what I’m doing on my computer or phone anymore!

Well, in theory. Sadly a lot of the services only do the ultra-secure stuff if both people talking have it. So my new text messages are pretty much as secure as they have ever been. If I ever do find someone else with Signal to text, then watch out! Likewise for my email. Still, even just a tiny step away from capitalist corporate/government surveillance state is a good thing. So I’m calling it a moral victory for now.

Okay. Here we go.

I’ve been struggling with getting engaged with things lately. Maybe trying to write down random thoughts in the blog will help! Or at least give me something to do instead of just laying around in bed.

Let’s see… Something to talk about….

Oh! Been reading SCP stuff lately. Last time I did any of that was… twenty years ago? Guh. Time. Anyway! Interesting to see how much bigger it has gotten and stuff changing and staying the same. A few I remember are still there because they are really good. I’m sure plenty of the ones that have been replaced I won’t remember because they aren’t very good. Don’t know how far I’ll get, but I’m up to the 300s and plan to push through at least until the 700s. So, you know, at least 10% of the entire list.

Also has me thinking about how to describe the whole SCP thing to someone with no previous experience. I mean, “collaborative writing horror universe” is technically correct I suppose? But in my opinion doesn’t convey the whole thing. I suppose I’m just overthinking it to some degree, and for the rest it’s something best experienced first-hand. Or at least checking out one of the SCPs and saying “A whole bunch more of that, written by thousands of people” to someone.

I think that is it for today. Gonna keep these things short so I don’t run out of ideas to ramble on about.
